The Pediatric and Adolescent Infections Disease Clinic provides comprehensive, integrated and family-centered care for children, adolescents, adults and families living with or affected by HIV within and beyond the Kampala metropolitan area.
With support from the U.S. Government, the Clinic delivers a broad package of HIV and related health services aimed at improving treatment outcomes, strengthening continuity of care and enabling clients to live healthy and fulfilling lives.
Services include HIV testing, treatment and long-term clinical management, alongside the diagnosis and management of advanced HIV disease and related conditions, including tuberculosis, severe acute malnutrition, severe pneumonia and cryptococcal disease.
The Clinic also provides integrated sexual and reproductive health services, including cervical cancer screening and treatment, as well as screening and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension and diabetes, and mental health conditions.
Recognizing that effective HIV care extends beyond clinical treatment, the Clinic provides adherence support, treatment literacy, psychosocial care and individualized interventions for clients experiencing treatment challenges. Clients with detectable viral loads receive enhanced adherence support and, where eligible, HIV drug-resistance testing to inform treatment optimization.
Preventive health services are also integrated into care, including routine childhood immunization and HPV vaccination for adolescent girls, contributing to efforts to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases and cervical cancer.
Through multidisciplinary care, innovative client education and continuous quality improvement, the Pediatric and Adolescent Infectious Diseases Clinic remains a centre of excellence for high-quality HIV care and integrated service delivery, while contributing to stronger models of care for children, adolescents and families in Uganda.
